Welcome & Greeting

Opening Sentence

Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:2

Confession of Sin

Officiant

Let us humbly confess our sins unto Almighty God.

Silence is kept.

Officiant and People

Almighty and most merciful Father,
we have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep,
we have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts,
we have offended against thy holy laws,
we have left undone those things which we ought to have done,
and we have done those things which we ought not to have done.
But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us,
spare thou those who confess their faults,
restore thou those who are penitent,
according to thy promises declared unto mankind
in Christ Jesus our Lord;
and grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake,
that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life,
to the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.

The Priest stands and says

The Almighty and merciful Lord grant you ✠ absolution and remission of all your sins, true repentance, amendment of life, and the grace and consolation of his Holy Spirit. Amen.

The Invitatory and Psalter

Officiant    ✠ O Lord, open thou our lips.
People     And our mouth shall show forth thy praise.

Officiant    Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
People     As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Officiant    Praise ye the Lord.
People     The Lord’s Name be praised.

Antiphon

Officiant    The earth is the Lord’s, for he made it:
People     O come, let us adore him.

Psalm 95:1-7; 96:9, 13
Venite, exultemus

Officiant and People

O come, let us sing unto the Lord; *
let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, *
and show ourselves glad in him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God, *
and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are all the corners of the earth, *
and the strength of the hills is his also.
The sea is his and he made it, *
and his hands prepared the dry land.

O come, let us worship and fall down *
and kneel before the Lord our Maker.
For he is the Lord our God, *
and we are the people of his pasture
and the sheep of his hand.

O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness; *
let the whole earth stand in awe of him.
For he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth, *
and with righteousness to judge the world
and the peoples with his truth.

Antiphon

Officiant    The earth is the Lord’s, for he made it:
People     O come, let us adore him.

Then follows the psalm or psalms appointed.

Psalm 148
Laudate Dominum.

Officiant and People

1 O Praise the Lord from the heavens: *
praise him in the heights.
2 Praise him, all ye angels of his: *
praise him, all his host.
3 Praise him, sun and moon: *
praise him, all ye stars and light.
4 Praise him, all ye heavens, *
and ye waters that are above the heavens.
5 Let them praise the Name of the LORD: *
for he spake the word, and they were made; he commanded, and they were created.
6 He hath made them fast for ever and ever: *
he hath given them a law which shall not be broken.
7 Praise the LORD from the earth, *
ye dragons and all deeps;
8 Fire and hail, snow and vapours, *
wind and storm, fulfilling his word;
9 Mountains and all hills; *
fruitful trees and all cedars;
10 Beasts and all cattle; *
creeping things and flying fowls;
11 Kings of the earth, and all peoples; *
princes, and all judges of the world;
12 Young men and maidens, old men and children, praise the Name of the Lord: *
for his Name only is excellent, and his praise above heaven and earth.
13 He shall exalt the horn of his people: all his saints shall praise him; *
even the children of Israel, even the people that serveth him.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalm 149
  Cantate Domino.

Officiant and People

1 O sing unto the Lord a new song; *
let the congregation of saints praise him.
2 Let Israel rejoice in him that made him, *
and let the children of Sion be joyful in their King.
3 Let them praise his Name in the dance: *
let them sing praises unto him with tabret and harp.
4 For the Lord hath pleasure in his people, *
and helpeth the meek-hearted.
5 Let the saints be joyful with glory; *
let them rejoice in their beds.
6 Let the praises of God be in their mouth; *
and a two-edged sword in their hands;
7 To be avenged of the nations, *
and to rebuke the peoples;
8 To bind their kings in chains, *
and their nobles with links of iron;
9 To execute judgment upon them; as it is written, *
Such honour have all his saints.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalm 150

praise him in the firmament of his power.
2 Praise him in his noble acts: *
praise him according to his excellent greatness.
3 Praise him in the sound of the trumpet: *
praise him upon the lute and harp.
4 Praise him in the timbrels and dances: *
praise him upon the strings and pipe.
5 Praise him upon the well-tuned cymbals: *
praise him upon the loud cymbals.
6 Let every thing that hath breath *
praise the Lord.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The Lesson

A Lesson from the Book of Isaiah: 43:14-44:5

Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: For your sake I will send to Babylon and break down all the bars, and the shouting of the Chaldeans will be turned to lamentation. I am the LORD, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King. Thus says the LORD, who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters, who brings out chariot and horse, army and warrior; they lie down, they cannot rise, they are extinguished, quenched like a wick: Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. The wild animals will honor me, the jackals and the ostriches; for I give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to give drink to my chosen people, the people whom I formed for myself so that they might declare my praise. Yet you did not call upon me, O Jacob; but you have been weary of me, O Israel! You have not brought me your sheep for burnt offerings, or honored me with your sacrifices. I have not burdened you with offerings, or wearied you with frankincense. You have not bought me sweet cane with money, or satisfied me with the fat of your sacrifices. But you have burdened me with your sins; you have wearied me with your iniquities. I, I am He who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins. Accuse me, let us go to trial; set forth your case, so that you may be proved right. Your first ancestor sinned, and your interpreters transgressed against me. Therefore I profaned the princes of the sanctuary, I delivered Jacob to utter destruction, and Israel to reviling. But now hear, O Jacob my servant, Israel whom I have chosen! Thus says the LORD who made you, who formed you in the womb and will help you: Do not fear, O Jacob my servant, Jeshurun whom I have chosen. For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour my spirit upon your descendants, and my blessing on your offspring. They shall spring up like a green tamarisk, like willows by flowing streams. This one will say, "I am the LORD's," another will be called by the name of Jacob, yet another will write on the hand, "The LORD's," and adopt the name of Israel.

Lector    Here endeth the Lesson.

Canticle
: The Song of Zechariah Benedictus Dominus Deus

Officiant and People

✠ Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, *
    for he hath visited and redeemed his people;
And hath raised up a mighty salvation for us *
    in the house of his servant David,
As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, *
    which have been since the world began:
That we should be saved from our enemies, *
    and from the hand of all that hate us;
To perform the mercy promised to our forefathers, *
    and to remember his holy covenant;
To perform the oath which he sware to our forefather Abraham, *
    that he would give us,
That we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies *
    might serve him without fear,
In holiness and righteousness before him, *
    all the days of our life.

And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest, *
    for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
To give knowledge of salvation unto his people *
    for the remission of their sins,
Through the tender mercy of our God, *
    whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us;
To give light to them that sit in darkness
    and in the shadow of death, *
    and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The Apostles’ Creed

Officiant and People

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
    maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;
    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
    born of the Virgin Mary,
    suffered under Pontius Pilate,
    was crucified, dead, and buried.
    He descended into hell.
    The third day he rose again from the dead.
    He ascended into heaven,
    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty.
    From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost,
    the holy catholic Church,
    the communion of saints,
    the forgiveness of sins,
    the resurrection of the body,
    ✠ and the life everlasting. Amen.

Officiant    The Lord be with you.
People     And with thy spirit.

        on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
    as we forgive those who trespass against us.

    but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
    for ever and ever. Amen.

R. O Lord, have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us.
V. O Lord, let thy mercy be upon us;
R. As our trust is in thee.
V. O Lord, in thee have I trusted;
R. Let me never be confounded.

A Collect for Grace

O Lord, our Heavenly Father, Almighty and everlasting God, who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day: Defend us in the same with thy mighty power; and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger; but that all our doings, being ordered by thy governance, may be righteous in thy sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Collect for Sundays

O God, who makest us glad with the weekly remembrance of the glorious resurrection of thy Son our Lord: Grant us this day such blessing through our worship of thee, that the days to come may be spent in thy favor; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer for Mission

Lord Jesus Christ, who didst stretch out thine arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of thy saving embrace: so clothe us in thy Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know thee to the knowledge and love of thee; for the honor of thy Name. Amen.

Silence.

The People may offer additional intercessions and thanksgivings at this time.

A Prayer of St. Chrysostom

Almighty God, who hast given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplication unto thee, and hast promised through thy well-beloved Son that when two or three are gathered together in his Name thou wilt be in the midst of them: Fulfill now, O Lord, the desires and petitions of thy servants as may be best for us; granting us in this world knowledge of thy truth, and in the world to come life everlasting. Amen.

Officiant
    Let us bless the Lord.
People     Thanks be to God.

The Office concludes as follows

Glory to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine: Glory to him from generation to generation in the Church, and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21
